Originally a one-hit wonder from the made-up band "Steam" (Fontana, 1969).

I used to hear this on the oldies station driving around Charlotte NC in 1987. I always thought wow those drums are really fucked up and cool sounding. So I had to do it. Recording the piano was tricky because it's on the other side of the house. I chained three mic cables and blasted the cue track in the studio to hear it all the way from the living room. What did I learn? doing research for this piece, I learned the original drums were made using a tape loop of percussion from a completely different song.
